As Northwestern Florida braced for a direct hit from Hurricane Helene, a Category 4 storm, a Strike Team from Hatzalah South Florida was preparing to deploy to help the affected Jewish communities.

“While Florida was bracing for a direct hit from Hurricane Helene, Hatzalah South Florida Special Operations Division deployed their HSF Rescue Strike team to the storm region and assisted local communities with emergency medical response and evacuations as needed,” Hatzalah South Florida wrote on social media.

In the first phase of the deployment, Hatzalah South Florida reached out to the affected Jewish communities, following up with the leaders of the communities and ensuring they and their community members were safe. A special team from Hatzalah South Florida also deployed to the “Ground Zero” area equipped with high water vehicles and resources for rescues.

“Hatzalah South Florida is in close communication with the local Jewish communities that were affected by massive storm surges and deployed its recently acquired highwater vehicles and emergency storm resources along with a team of paramedics and EMT’s to respond where needed,” Hatzalah South Florida said.

After completing their assignment Friday, the Hatzalah South Florida team traveled to Orlando, where they were hosted by the Eden Gardens Community over Shabbos.
